Our retreats have at their heart a shared experience based on our chosen book. Over two nights we gather to unpack the lessons, messages and memories found between the pages. A Life of One’s Own, by Marion Milner is our choice for 2026.
Published in 1934, A Life of One’s Own details Marion's seven year journey to discover what it is that made her happy. Published five years after Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own, it’s less a political or societal statement and more of an emotional, mindful offering, steeped in rigorous observation, disarming honesty and what have proved to become timeless insights.
We will be exploring its themes of blind thinking, searching for a purpose and how to keep a journal that serves you (a journal isn’t much good if it only records feelings, it should be a motive for experiment as well as observation).
Marion’s distillation of the value of her years of observation, which led to her becoming a renowned British psychoanalyst, is as clear a road map to happiness we’ve ever come across. It’s less a hero’s journey and more a route to developing a more vivid power of perceiving than ever before.
Once you have finalised your booking for our 2026 Retreat we will send you Marion Milner's book, accompanied by a Loco Love Chocolate, for you to enjoy together.
